This four star dog friendly hotel puts its welcome plainly: bring your kids, bring your dogs, bring the in-laws.

Dogs stay in selected rooms only, and if yours is coming, the hotel suggests asking about the outside courtyard rooms. Bedrooms come with king size beds at the very least, fluffy towels, Elemis products and a mini bar with complimentary soft drinks and biscuits, and a number have bathtubs in the room alongside walk-in showers. Time alone in the room and the number of dogs per room are both left open; the hotel doesn't state either, so ask before booking.

You can dine with your dog at milsoms Kesgrave Hall, in a brasserie restaurant that is open all day for lunch, dinner or a drink, with no booking needed. The menu runs from steak and pan fried guinea fowl to fresh fish or a light sandwich, with room left for dessert. The bar is open all day, every day, with a huge lawn at the front and balls and games to use.

The Spa at Kesgrave Hall has five double treatment rooms and a huge hot tub with a covered terrace and log fire. When the dog wants a proper walk, Wildpack's Sutton Hoo Estate and River Deben is 3.7 miles away, and Felixstowe North Beach is 7.3 miles away, the beach Wildpack names as dog friendly nearest to Kesgrave.
