1 / 8The Boar's Head
Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.
A coaching inn at the heart of the Ripley Castle Estate near Harrogate, where the Snug and the bar welcome well behaved dogs on leads.
Ripley is a historic village, and at its very heart sits The Boar's Head, a traditional coaching inn on the Ripley Castle Estate within easy reach of Harrogate. It has 23 individual bedrooms, a welcoming Bar, a cosy Snug with a log fire and a formal Dining Room. This dog friendly inn keeps a gallery of photos of dogs who have stayed, several of them pictured with new toys or waiting hopefully for sausage.
Dogs stay in a limited number of rooms in the Courtyard and in Birchwood House, across the road, rather than in the Main House, so the team asks you to call first and check a room is free for your dates. Up to two dogs can share, and their stay comes with dog beds, bowls and treats. The ground floor accessible room is kept for service and therapy dogs only.
Lunch, evening meals and breakfast are all served in the Snug and bar areas, where well behaved dogs are welcome on a short lead, so yours can be beside you from breakfast to a quiet drink in the afternoon. Tables in the Snug and outside can't be reserved. The menu draws on produce from the Estate and the local area, from a steak and Black Sheep Ale pie to chilli prawn linguine, with a Sunday roast and a vegan menu on request.
Staying here brings complimentary access to the Ripley Castle Gardens and Grounds, with a Victorian walled garden and a woodland walk; last entry is 3pm and it can close on some dates, so call first. Dogs are welcome there on leads at all times, though livestock keeps them out of the Deer Park and Showfield. More walks start right on the doorstep in Ripley, and Wildpack's Brimham Rocks Outer Loop is 3.3 miles away.
