The Gallivant, a dog friendly coastal hotel in Rye1 / 8

The Gallivant

Rye, East Sussex

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A coastal hotel opposite the dunes at Camber, near Rye, where dogs no bigger than a Labrador get a bed and bowl waiting in the bedroom.

The Gallivant is on the road into Camber, directly opposite the large sand dune, close to the sand of Camber Sands and near Rye. A dog friendly hotel built for sandy, salty days, where just left of the main entrance there is somewhere to wash four paws before you come in. French doors in some bedrooms open onto your own deck and the coastal garden beyond.

Two dogs can stay per bedroom, in one of the few rooms the hotel keeps for dogs and asks you to request in advance; a cosy bed and bowl wait there for them. Well behaved dogs are accepted, nothing bigger than a Labrador, and the lead stays on throughout the hotel and the coastal garden.

Harry's Restaurant is a French brasserie by the sea, with white tablecloths, soft lighting, a whole roast fish or a cut of beef to share and a tarte fine aux pommes flambéed in Calvados in front of you. Dogs are allowed in the Sitting Room, the Terrace and the Coastal Gardens, and in the Bar except at a dining table when dinner is being served. The rules don't mention whether a dog can be left in the bedroom alone, so ask when you book.

Breakfast arrives on its own oak tray and butler stand, set beside your table to pick from: Wimbledon Smokehouse smoked salmon, Northiam Dairy yoghurt, the kitchen's nut granola and freshly baked croissants. Yoga runs daily, in the studio or out on the beach, and the Luxury Garden Rooms, the largest bedrooms, have a roll-top bath. Camber Sands, which we list as the nearest beach where dogs are welcome, is 0.3 miles away.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
