The Old Posting House

Cockermouth, Cumberland

Yes. Dogs can stay overnight, up to 2 dogs per room.

A 400 year old coaching inn just outside Cockermouth, with beamed ceilings, its original post boxes and a bar that welcomes dogs.

On the edge of the Lake District National Park, just outside Cockermouth, The Old Posting House is a 400 year old coaching inn with Loweswater, Buttermere and Derwentwater among the northern lakes on its doorstep. Its beamed ceilings and its original post boxes, which are protected by English Heritage, sit inside a dog friendly inn with a buzzing, sociable atmosphere, where the bar welcomes your dog.

You can bring up to two dogs to stay. The inn has six en-suite bedrooms with king beds, flat screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and a shower, plus a private courtyard for residents. Which rooms take dogs, and whether one can stay alone in the room, the inn doesn't say; check both when you call to book.

When you want to eat, the inn can accommodate you and your dog in the bar area, where cool lagers, fruity bitters and malty ales sit alongside a wide range of wines, with locally produced beers and wines wherever possible. The chef cooks traditional pub food, and the inn likes to choose its ingredients from the many suppliers and growers of West Cumbria, there is always something new on the menu and specials board, and there are Sunday roasts and a wide selection of gins and malts.

For exploring the northern lakes, the inn is ideally placed. Loweswater and Holme Wood Circular is 4.2 miles away on Wildpack's map, and Workington Beach, our nearest dog friendly beach, is 5.7 miles off.
