1 / 8The Ollerod
Beaminster, Dorset
Yes. Dogs can stay in 2 dog friendly rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.
A 14th century hamstone house in the Dorset village of Beaminster, now a bar with rooms, where well behaved dogs share the main bar and walled garden.
Beaminster sits in a fold of the Dorset hills, and The Ollerod has stood in the village since the 1300s, when it was built as a clergy house for local priests in traditional Dorset hamstone. Today it is a boutique hotel of nine bedrooms and two apartments with the bar at the heart of the house, and a dog friendly hotel where well behaved dogs can come into the main bar, the garden and the terrace.
Two rooms are kept for dogs, and they must be pre-booked directly with the hotel in advance. Each of the two takes a maximum of two small dogs, or a single medium dog. Superior rooms are large and full of natural light, with views out over the garden, and both Superior and Deluxe list a pet friendly room on request. Italian Frette linen, organic Dorset toiletries and Dorset biscuits come as standard in the rooms.
Ask at the main bar and a bowl of water appears for your dog from behind the counter. Local beers, bespoke cocktails and Dibar coffee are poured all day, the full bar snacks menu runs through the evening, and the Crust & Cow pop-up cooks from Tuesday to Saturday. Overnight guests get a continental breakfast with freshly cooked eggs; the hotel's pages don't mention dogs at breakfast, so ask when you book.
The walled garden is a suntrap of flowers and herbs, and dogs are welcome out there while you linger over a pint. One of the four poster rooms still hides a priest hole from the years after the Reformation. Mangerton Mill and River Brit Walk, from Wildpack's map, is 1.3 miles away, and West Bay (East Beach), our nearest dog friendly beach, lies 6.8 miles off.
