The Speech House Hotel

Coleford, Gloucestershire

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A former 17th-century hunting lodge in the Royal Forest of Dean, where dogs stay in selected Courtyard rooms and join you for meals in the Orangery.

Since 1669 The Speech House has stood in the centre of the Royal Forest of Dean, a former hunting lodge surrounded by ancient woodland. Today it is an independent, family-run dog friendly hotel with 35 en-suite bedrooms, and the forest is right there the moment you and your dog step out.

Dogs stay in the modern Courtyard rooms, apart from the Courtyard Four Posters, and none of the Main House bedrooms take dogs. Up to two dogs can share, and each stay includes the use of a food and water bowl, a dog towel and a rug. Bring your dog's own food, and the hotel can provide a fridge in the room, subject to availability. The house rules ask for dogs that are well trained, recall included, and well mannered, kept on a leash in public areas, with anything they leave behind picked up straight away.

The Orangery is open all day, every day, a bright and welcoming room where your dog is welcome, as it is in Hunters Bar and the reception areas. Dogs don't go into the Verderers' Court, the fine dining restaurant, or the Edwin Tauber Suite. Brunch is served from 9am, followed by a lunch menu with specials that change daily, a traditional afternoon tea on fine bone china in the Orangery, and evening dishes from locally sourced produce.

Step outside and the scenery around the hotel is ideal for exploring with the dog, with picnic spots to find along the way. Wildpack's map puts the Beechenhurst Lodge and Sculpture Trail Loop 0.4 miles from the hotel and Cannop Ponds Circular Walk 1.1 miles off, so a second forest walk is never far away.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
