1 / 8The Star Inn
Morpeth, Northumberland
Yes. Dogs can stay in all rooms, up to 1 dog per room.
A coaching inn built over 200 years ago in Harbottle, in the Northumberland National Park, where each B&B room takes one dog of up to medium size.
The Star Inn was built as a coaching inn over 200 years ago, from sandstone taken from the ruins of nearby Harbottle Castle, and drovers crossing the Anglo-Scottish border in the Cheviot Hills would once have used it. Today it is a family owned, dog friendly inn in an attractive village in Coquetdale, within the Northumberland National Park and International Dark Sky Park, popular with walkers, cyclists and bikers.
Three en-suite B&B rooms sit in an annexe at the rear of the pub, and each sleeps two guests and one dog, medium sized at most. A dog crate can be provided on request, along with a packed lunch for the day out. Each room has its own patio garden with furniture, a power shower and a Smart TV with Freesat. The inn doesn't say if your dog may be left in the room on your evening out, so ask before you book.
The pub is dog friendly and welcomes walkers, cyclists, bikers and families alike, with a large barn and courtyard at the rear giving seating inside and out. At the table, too, the inn doesn't mention whether dogs can join you; ring to ask when you book. The kitchen has wood-fired pizza ovens and a char-grill for hand-stretched Italian pizza, pasta, fish and meat, with beers, wines, cakes and ice-cream besides.
Two cycling routes, the Pennine Cycleway and The Sandstone Way, pass the front door, and the inn doubles as a National Park Information Point with leaflets and maps. With the dog, Harbottle Crags and Drake Stone Walk, one of Wildpack's, is 0.8 miles away, and Coquetdale: Alwinton to Barrowburn lies 1.3 miles out.
