1 / 8The Wellington Arms
Heckfield, Hampshire
Yes. Dogs can stay in 1 dog friendly room.
A country inn on the Hampshire and Berkshire border with four bedrooms, one kept for dogs, and a dining room where dogs are encouraged to join you.
Four bedrooms make up the stay at The Wellington Arms, a country inn on the Hampshire and Berkshire border: two in an old barn, one in a green oak barn and the Apartment upstairs above the pub. The Hayloft is the room set aside for dogs, and dogs are encouraged to come with you into the dining room as well, making this a dog friendly inn from bedroom to dinner table.
The Hayloft has an emperor size bed and was rebuilt to mirror the existing roofline, with exposed brickwork, green oak timbers and a hayloft up top for the sprightly. Lily's Kitchen treats and a water bowl are ready for your dog, along with hide chews to keep them occupied. Slate flagstones with underfloor heating, Hungarian goose down pillows and duvet and Aesop toiletries look after you. Whether a second dog can join you in the Hayloft the inn doesn't say, so ask ahead.
Dogs are encouraged into the dining room, an intimate, relaxed space where the menus change every day. Breakfast is served there too, with eggs laid yesterday or today by a neighbour's flock of free-range hens. The kitchen grows plenty itself: herbs from the garden by the kitchen door, vegetables and salad from the polytunnel and four raised beds. Sourdough is baked every day with organic flour from Shipton Mill, the puddings and ice cream are made in the kitchen, and the cooking holds two AA rosettes.
Out back, a field holds the inn's flock of fifty pedigree Jacob sheep. Preserves, chutney, sourdough bread and sloe gin are sold over the bar to take home. For a longer outing with the dog, Watership Down, on Wildpack's map, lies 4.8 miles away.
