Hawkshead, Cumbria
A three bedroom cottage for five in the middle of Hawkshead with two separate living rooms, a fire in each and an enclosed garden and patio behind, one dog welcome.
Applerigg has two living rooms and a fire in each of them, which in a cottage for five is the difference between everybody being together and everybody having to be. Dog friendly and right in the middle of Hawkshead, it has three bedrooms upstairs, one dog along for the week, and an enclosed garden with a patio and a table on it out at the back.
The open end of the house holds a wood burner, deep sofas and the kitchen, with the dining table set by French windows that give onto the garden. The front room is the quiet one, an open fire and armchairs and neighbouring fields through the window. Above are a double, a twin and a single, and the bathroom up there carries a bath and a separate shower. A dog gets its choice of two hearths.
Half past four, and the front room has been taken by whoever wanted to read. The dog is next door where the wood burner is, flat out on the boards with one ear still tracking the kitchen. The French windows stand open on the garden and nobody has bothered to shut them. Somebody comes back up from the village with bread, and the house rearranges itself around the smell of dinner.
The village is at the door, its yards and alleys holding the Beatrix Potter Gallery, small shops and somewhere to eat. Above Windermere the old Claife Viewing Station stands where Victorian visitors went to look at the lake, with woods running down from it to the ferry. Ambleside lies north over the hill. Between them there is more low level walking than one dog can get through in a week.

Are dogs allowed at Applerigg year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and with two fireplaces and an enclosed garden it's well set up whatever the time of year. For confirmation of availability at specific dates, it's worth checking directly with the property.
What should I know before visiting Applerigg with my dog?
Applerigg accepts one dog, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you're travelling with more than one.
