Barn Court Cottage

Lurley, Devon

A detached two bedroom cottage for four and one dog near Tiverton in the Exe valley, with an enclosed garden and a bridleway past the door, in sheep country.

Book now

This is sheep country, and the owners ask that the one dog Barn Court Cottage takes is kept on a lead at all times. With that understood, it is a dog friendly home in a quiet, wooded valley off the Exe north of Tiverton, detached, sleeping four, with an enclosed garden and a bridleway running right past it.

Out at the back is an enclosed garden with patio and furniture, and it is where the dog spends the quiet hours between walks, lying in the sun on the flags. There are three steps up to the front door. Inside, the living room has sofas facing an electric wood burner, the kitchen has a table big enough for a family meal, and there is a separate utility outside with a washing machine and tumble dryer for towels and dog blankets. A stairgate is provided, and the owners leave doggy extras.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms under Velux windows, a double and a twin, and a white bathroom with a bath and shower. It suits a family with one dog, or two friends, who want real countryside and very little else: birdsong in the morning, the bridleway after breakfast, a lead in hand and nobody else on it.

The Exe valley runs south to Tiverton, and Knightshayes, the National Trust's Victorian gothic house with its gardens and woodland, is close by. Exmoor starts a short drive north, with Dulverton and the old clapper bridge at Tarr Steps, and Wimbleball Lake makes a good circuit for a dog on a lead. The coasts of north and south Devon are both within an hour.
