Eight people and two dogs, and two enclosed gardens to hold them. Bernicia House is a detached, dog friendly house in North Sunderland, the older half of Seahouses on the Northumberland coast, with lawned gardens both front and back and the sea within an easy walk.

The layout has thought behind it. On the ground floor, a living room opens into a conservatory that doubles as the games room, with table football, and there is a double bedroom with a walk-in shower beside it, fitted with a grab rail and a seat, for anyone, or any older dog, who would rather not climb. Upstairs a second living room has floor to ceiling glass looking out to the sea one way and farmland the other. A king with its own shower, a double and a twin share the rest of the floor. A stairgate is available.

The back garden has a big patio, furniture and a barbecue. In the field beyond it horses graze, and at the end of the day, with two dogs asleep and the barbecue cooling, the upstairs window is where people gather to watch them against the sunset.

The harbour is where boats leave for the Farne Islands and their seals and seabirds. Seahouses North Beach runs away from the village, and Bamburgh and its castle, with miles of wide sand for the dogs, are just up the coast. Beyond them Budle Bay spreads its mudflats full of birds at low tide, and Holy Island can be seen from Bamburgh's sands.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Bernicia House dog friendly?

Yes, Bernicia House welcomes up to two dogs. It's a detached house with enclosed lawned gardens both front and back, so your dogs have secure outdoor space to enjoy without you having to worry about them making a break for it.

  • Are dogs allowed at Bernicia House year round?

  • What should I know before visiting Bernicia House with my dog?

The house accommodates two dogs and has enclosed gardens front and back, which makes life easier from the moment you arrive.
