Bluebell Cottage

Over Stowey, Somerset

A detached barn for two at Over Stowey in the Quantock Hills, all on one level, with a large enclosed garden and two dogs welcome free of charge.

Book now

Over Stowey is a small village at the foot of the Quantock Hills, and from Bluebell Cottage the hills are there to walk straight onto. It is a detached barn, renovated as a dog friendly cottage for two, all on one level, and two dogs come with it at no extra charge.

Both the living area and the bedroom have French doors, and both open onto the garden. It is large and enclosed, with a patio that catches the morning sun, and the owner suggests breakfast out there. A dog let out first thing has plenty of room to go round, and there is furniture on the patio for whoever is holding the coffee.

Inside is one open space for living, dining and cooking, with a smart television for the evenings, and then the bedroom with its king size bed. The bathroom has a roll top bath with a shower over it, and after a day on the Quantocks that bath is what you will be thinking about on the way down. It suits two people and two dogs who intend to be out on the hills most of the day, and who want to come back to a door that opens straight onto the grass. There are doggy extras on arrival.

The Quantocks were the first landscape in England to be named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, open heath and wooded combes with deer on the tops, and the walks up to Great Wood and Beacon Hill start close by. Kilve's fossil beach is a short drive, and Nether Stowey, where Coleridge lived, is the nearest village for a stroll with the dogs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Bluebell Cottage dog friendly?

Bluebell Cottage is thoroughly dog friendly — up to two dogs are welcome at no extra charge. The cottage has a large enclosed garden that dogs can roam freely, and there are doggy extras waiting for you on arrival.

  • Are dogs allowed at Bluebell Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the cottage appears set up for year-round stays. That said, it's always worth confirming directly with the owner when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Bluebell Cottage with my dog?

The cottage is all on one level, which makes it easy for dogs to move around, and both the living room and bedroom have French doors opening straight onto the garden. The Quantock Hills are accessible on foot from the door, so you'll want to come prepared for a good amount of time outdoors — this place is really designed for people and dogs who plan to spend most of the day out on the hills.
