Bluebell Shepherd Huts are a pair of private, romantic shepherd's huts for your exclusive use, hand crafted by the owner from local hillside timber and winners of a county award. They stand in a hawthorn fringed meadow on Spring Farm near Forest Coal Pit, with a panoramic view down the whole length of the Bryn Awr Valley to the Brecon Beacons, and this dog friendly retreat for two has room for one dog as well.

The sleeping hut has picture windows on both sides, pastel panelled walls, a blissfully soft double bed and two comfy armchairs by the wood burner, its logs included, and once the evening draws in, the dog makes for the fire. The adjoining hut holds a fully fitted kitchen and a separate shower room, each with its own door.

This is a digital detox, with light from solar panels, hot water from a gas boiler and sheep's wool insulation keeping the huts warm all year. Outside there is a private garden area with an outdoor table and bench and a lovely fire pit for toasting marshmallows. The huts sit within 30 acres of farm and smallholding with lots of friendly animals, and the field they stand in is not enclosed for pets, so the owner asks anyone bringing a dog to be mindful of the other animals on site.

There are incredible walks straight from the door for you and the dog, and a good pub close by. Crickhowell, with its independent shops and coffee shops, is a short drive, and the market town of Abergavenny has a Norman castle, farmers' markets and its September food festival, with Brecon, Hay-on-Wye and the heritage sites at Blaenavon all within reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Bluebell Shepherd Huts dog friendly?

Yes, Bluebell Shepherd Huts welcomes one dog alongside two guests. There's a private enclosed area beside the huts with furniture in it, and your dog is welcome inside too — the sleeping hut has floor space between the armchairs, though at this size expect some overlap with everyone's feet.

  • Are dogs allowed at Bluebell Shepherd Huts year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — a wood burner in the sleeping hut and a fire pit outside — makes this a place that works well beyond the summer months.

  • What should I know before visiting Bluebell Shepherd Huts with my dog?

This is a working smallholding of thirty acres with animals on it, which is worth bearing in mind depending on how your dog responds to livestock. The owners live on site and will let you know which fields have stock in them, so you can plan your walks accordingly. The good news is that once you leave through the gate, your dog is on open ground without having to cross a road.
