From Botany Lodge to the sands of Botany Bay is less than a mile, and the Viking Trail, running from Ramsgate to Reculver, passes along the end of the road, so the morning walk with two dogs starts almost at once. This recently renovated Victorian cottage keeps many of its original features, dressed in heritage shades from the era, and sleeps six at the Broadstairs edge of town, as dog friendly a seaside base as you could ask for.
A bright, airy hall takes the shoes and coats. Outside, a fully enclosed garden makes a suntrap for most of the day, its patio furnished for sitting out, a charcoal BBQ beside it, and while supper cooks the dogs lie about on the warm paving. A washing machine waits in the outside utility cupboard for the beach towels.
Inside, the lounge has two large comfortable sofas and an armchair round a Smart TV, the kitchen is built around an electric range cooker, and the dining room seats all six at one large table. Botany Bay itself is ideal for swimming, surfing and kayaking, the Viking Trail gives the dogs a long walk in either direction, and the historic city of Canterbury and its cathedral make a fine excursion.
