1 / 16Bradstock Cottages - The Retreat
Burton Bradstock, Dorset
A Grade II listed house for eleven at Burton Bradstock on the Jurassic Coast, with five bedrooms, an enclosed garden, doggy extras and two dogs welcome, close to Hive Beach.
Burton Bradstock is a thatch and stone village on the Jurassic Coast, and The Retreat stands at the heart of it, a Grade II listed house that sleeps eleven over three floors. This dog friendly house takes a big family with two dogs in tow, and it is one of the Bradstock Cottages, which can be booked together for seventeen when the family is bigger still.
Everyone gravitates to the kitchen and dining room, large enough to cook and eat and argue about the plans in. There is a separate living room, and a king size bedroom and shower room on the ground floor. The first floor holds two super king rooms, one with its own shower, a bunk room for children and a roll top bath, and a king and single at the top of the house has its own ensuite. A stairgate comes with the house, and so do a welcome pack and extras for the dogs.
Outside there is an enclosed garden, laid to patio, with a long table and a coal barbecue. On a house party this size it becomes the dogs' headquarters, a secure square where two of them can be let out while eleven people get their boots on, and where they end up again in the evening with the barbecue going and nobody in a hurry.
Hive Beach is half a mile away, shingle under golden sandstone cliffs, and West Bay's harbour sits a little further west beneath the same cliffs. They are sheer and they crumble, so dogs are best kept close on the paths along the top. Golden Cap, the highest point on this coast, is within reach for a longer day, and Bridport and Dorchester are short drives inland.

Book with cottages.comFrequently Asked Questions
Is Bradstock Cottages - The Retreat dog friendly?
Yes, The Retreat welcomes up to two dogs. The house comes with a welcome pack and extras for dogs, and the enclosed patio garden gives them a secure space to roam while the humans get themselves organised.
Are dogs allowed at Bradstock Cottages - The Retreat year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting Bradstock Cottages directly to confirm availability for your dates. As a self-catering property, it's more likely to offer year-round flexibility than a beach or café with seasonal rules.
What should I know before visiting Bradstock Cottages - The Retreat with my dog?
The house accommodates two dogs, so it's worth confirming this before booking if you have more. Nearby Hive Beach is just half a mile away, and the Jurassic Coast clifftop paths are beautiful, but the cliffs along this stretch are sheer and unstable, so it's wise to keep dogs close on the higher paths.
