Briars Lodge is a stylish detached lodge on the south side of the Isle of Wight, at Roud, with the peace of the countryside around it and views far and wide across rolling fields. This dog friendly lodge is home to four guests and one dog, and its spacious enclosed garden has a fire pit, a barbecue and outdoor seating for evenings outside.

A step up leads into a long, stylish hallway, where cupboards and floor space by the door take the muddy boots after a day on the island's trails, and a utility room holds the washing machine. Straight ahead, cooking, dining and lounging share one open plan room, a Tassimo coffee machine on the counter and a table where everyone can sit down together. Directly beside it is the cosy lounge, with comfortable sofas, a Smart TV and a wood burner (the opening basket of logs is supplied), and the dog stakes out the floor in front of it.

On a sunnier day the bi-fold doors fold back to let the fresh air through, and the dog is out onto the garden before anyone has found their shoes. The two bedrooms lie back along the hallway, each with large wardrobes and air conditioning: the king size en suite and the twin.

Right on the doorstep is a network of footpaths, including the Stenbury Trail and a wonderful walk along the River Yar, so the dog has countryside walking from the very first morning. The seaside resorts of Shanklin and Ventnor are both 6 miles away, and a beach is 4.5 miles off, with the island's attractions all within easy reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Briars Lodge dog friendly?

Yes, Briars Lodge welcomes one dog per booking. The lodge has clearly been set up with dogs in mind — there's a boot cupboard and bare floor right inside the front door for muddy returns, an enclosed garden for safe outdoor time, and field paths heading off in several directions straight from the gate.

  • Are dogs allowed at Briars Lodge year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing in the property details suggests otherwise. If you want to confirm availability for specific dates, it's worth checking directly with the host.

  • What should I know before visiting Briars Lodge with my dog?

The property accommodates one dog, so it's not suited to multi-dog households. On the plus side, the setup is genuinely practical: the enclosed garden gives your dog a safe space to roam, field paths and quiet lanes are accessible right from the property, and the south coast beaches are a short drive away for days when you fancy a change of scenery.
