Pooley Bridge sits where the River Eamont leaves Ullswater, a small village at the quiet end of a long lake with the steamers coming and going from a pier at the bottom of it. Butt House stands on its main street, a dog friendly stay sleeping six, one dog welcome, and it keeps a boot room by the back door with space in it for a dog bed.
That boot room is the thing to book this one for. It opens off the kitchen, holds the washing machine and the dryer, and has its own door out to the enclosed garden, so the owners put the dog into the plan of the house rather than leaving a guest to improvise on a hall floor. Behind the village Dunmallard Hill gives a short circuit for a dog with little left in it, and Moor Divock carries stone circles up on the open fell.
