Bwthyn Yr Afon sits in rural surroundings at Tal-y-Bont, close to a stream and woodland, and it is a modern, cosy dog friendly cottage for a couple and one dog. Golden sandy beaches, the harbour at Barmouth and Harlech's castle are all within easy reach, which makes it a superb choice for a romantic break by the coast.

Park up, walk over and go through the gate into the garden, and the front door opens into a porch with plenty of room for sandals, boots, coats and the dog's lead. The detached cottage is all on one level, with plenty of space to relax: a well equipped kitchen looking over the garden, a dining table by the window, and comfortable seating with a pouffe and a Smart TV for the evening, where the dog curls up close by. Dogs are asked to stay out of the bedroom, which has a king size bed. The bathroom has a large shower.

The enclosed garden has a paved patio with seating and a charcoal BBQ, and the sound of the nearby stream carries across it. Supper outside, a sundowner or two and a sunset to finish, with the dog stretched out beside your chair.

The beach is within walking distance, so the dog's day can start on the sand. Barmouth, 4.5 miles away, has its harbour and the Mawddach Estuary, Harlech is famous for its castle and the links at Royal St David's, and Snowdonia National Park offers footpaths, cycle routes and walks to Cadair Idris, with Coed-y-Brenin for mountain biking.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Bwthyn Yr Afon dog friendly?

Yes, Bwthyn Yr Afon welcomes one dog. The cottage has an enclosed paved garden, so your dog can be let out safely without any fuss, and there's plenty of floor space in the lounge for them to settle in front of the sofa.

  • Are dogs allowed at Bwthyn Yr Afon year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What is clear is that one dog is genuinely part of the setup here, not an afterthought.

  • What should I know before visiting Bwthyn Yr Afon with my dog?

The one house rule to be aware of is that dogs are not allowed in the bedroom — straightforward and easy enough to work with. On the plus side, the garden is enclosed so your dog can roam it freely, there's a porch for muddy kit on the way in, and the beach at Dyffryn Ardudwy is just a mile away with long stretches of sand and dunes.
