Cartworth View

Holmfirth, West Yorkshire

A four bedroom cottage for six above Holmfirth with an enclosed front garden looking down the Holme Valley and a sheltered patio behind, two dogs welcome.

Book now

Cartworth View is up eleven stone steps from the road, which is worth knowing and is also why the front garden looks at half the Holme Valley. Four bedrooms sleep six here above Holmfirth, and that front garden is enclosed with seating in it. Two dogs come on the booking, and dog friendly starts with a lawn nobody crosses a road to reach.

Boots stop in the hall inside the door. A lounge with a gas fire and large windows takes the front, and the kitchen behind, table in it, is the room the house works in. Two big zip and link bedrooms and the bathroom share the first floor, and a twin and a single sit under low sloping ceilings above them. The patio at the back is the sheltered side, and a dog will have found both ends of the house before the first day is out.

Four bedrooms for six people is the useful part. A family whose children want a room each, or two couples and a spare, get one apiece instead of a rota, and the pair at the top have the low beamed ceilings children decide are the best thing in the building. One bathroom between six asks for organisation, and the dogs have outside ground on both sides of the house.

Holmfirth is a walk down the hill: stone terraces up both sides of a valley, independent shops, a vineyard and live music in a converted cinema. Above it the road climbs to Holme Moss, one of the great Pennine crossings, mast on the summit and moor in every direction. Digley and the other reservoirs sit in the folds below, each with a path round the water and dogs welcome on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Cartworth View dog friendly?

Yes, Cartworth View welcomes two dogs. The house has outdoor space on both sides — an enclosed front garden with seating and a sheltered patio at the back — so your dogs will have room to settle without you needing to cross a road to reach it.

  • Are dogs allowed at Cartworth View year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly when booking if you're planning a visit at a particular time of year. What's clear is that the setup — enclosed garden, patio, and easy access to reservoir paths and moorland nearby — suits dogs in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Cartworth View with my dog?

The cottage sits eleven stone steps up from the road, so it's worth bearing that in mind if your dog needs a bit of help on steps. Boots stop in the hall just inside the door, which hints at the house's approach to muddy walks — and with Digley Reservoir and the moors above Holme Moss on the doorstep, muddy walks are very much on the cards. Up to two dogs are included in the booking.
