Chapel Cottage was built of stone in 1769 and stands at the edge of Monyash, in the centre of the Peak District. A couple and their two dogs get this dog friendly cottage all to themselves, and behind it lies a beautiful enclosed garden of patio and lawn with open countryside beyond, so the dogs begin each morning with it all in view.
Inside, the lounge and dining area sits under a beamed ceiling, with a log burning stove set into a stone fireplace and the first logs supplied. The owner calls it the ultimate spot for a cosy evening, and two dogs drying out by that stove after a long day out will not disagree. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking in.
A cast iron double bed is the centrepiece of the bedroom, which faces the front, and the bathroom is a spacious one with a bath and a shower over it. Romantic is the owner's own word for the place. Out in the secluded garden there is furniture and a BBQ, and on a summer evening supper happens out there with both dogs sprawled across the lawn. Lathkill Dale is close by, the Tissington Trail runs down to the cobbled streets of Ashbourne, and bikes can be hired locally for the old railway lines. Bakewell is a short drive away, with Buxton near too, and two dogs have the contrasting country of the Dark and White Peaks to explore.
