Chesters

Jedburgh, Scottish Borders

Four canvas hideaways on a Borders estate with a walled garden, a river and hot tubs to book, two dogs welcome on the lead, near Jedburgh.

Book now

The old walled garden is the centre of Chesters and you are invited to pick your own fruit and vegetables out of it to cook on the stove, which is not a thing most dog friendly stays offer. This is an estate rather than a farmyard: four canvas hideaways, a river, deer and sheep. Two dogs are welcome and stay on the lead throughout the property, and there is no enclosed garden to let one off in.

Inside, each hideaway holds six people across three bedrooms and is lit and heated by fire alone. Every one can be booked with a private hot tub, and the farm makes a point of being a midge free spot, which matters more than it sounds if you plan to sit out with a dog on a summer evening in Scotland. A Discovery Tent comes with each pitch, full of books, paints and a telescope.

Space is the thing here and a dog benefits from it as much as anyone. There is river to paddle in, woodland to walk, and enough ground that a long line walk in the morning can go somewhere different each day without leaving the estate. Evenings are the hot tub, the stove and a dog asleep across the doorway.

Jedburgh and its abbey are a couple of miles off, the Cheviots rise to the south, and this is quiet country to walk a dog in any direction you choose. Edinburgh is reachable for a day by way of the Tweedbank line, and the Borders towns are close enough that a morning out still leaves the afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Chesters dog friendly?

Yes, Chesters welcomes up to two dogs per hideaway. The estate offers plenty of space to explore together, including woodland walks, a river to paddle in, and enough ground that you can take a different route each morning without leaving the property.

  • Are dogs allowed at Chesters year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dog visits, so it's worth contacting Chesters directly to confirm availability for your dates. What is worth knowing is that the farm makes a point of being a midge-free spot, which is a real bonus if you're planning to sit outside with your dog on summer evenings in Scotland.

  • What should I know before visiting Chesters with my dog?

Dogs must be kept on the lead throughout the estate, and there is no enclosed garden where they can be let off. The property accommodates a maximum of two dogs, so if you're travelling with more it's worth checking before you book.
