Colcote Cottage

Harrogate, North Yorkshire

A five star two bedroom cottage for four in Harrogate with a wood burner, an enclosed lawned garden off the kitchen and bowls and towels already in the house, two dogs welcome.

Harrogate is a spa town that never quite stopped being one, sulphur wells beneath it and a Turkish bath still working on a corner. Colcote Cottage stands in a quiet street just off the centre, a five star dog friendly cottage taking four people and two dogs, with an enclosed lawned garden through the French doors off the kitchen. The bowls and the towels are in the house when you arrive.

The ground floor is arranged round that garden. Kitchen and dining fill one light room at the back, a small snug sits beside the French doors, and a laundry area shut away behind the kitchen is where a wet dog and a full machine get dealt with together. The lounge next door is built round a wood burner. Upstairs the king has a walk-in wardrobe and the twin zips together into a super king if the party wants it.

A cottage this size in a street this quiet suits four adults with a dog each, or a family with the twin made up. The bathroom is the one upstairs room with space to spare, a roll top bath in it, and a walk-in shower that stands clear. Two dogs on a booking in a town cottage is rarer than it ought to be, and the garden justifies it.

The Stray begins a few streets away, 200 acres of common the town was built round and never allowed to build on, and it is where every dog in Harrogate ends up twice a day. The Valley Gardens run west from the old Pump Room into woodland, a stream and a boating pond, dogs welcome throughout. The Dales start half an hour beyond the ring road.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Colcote Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Colcote Cottage welcomes up to two dogs, which is genuinely uncommon for a town cottage of this size. The house has an enclosed lawned garden accessible through French doors off the kitchen, and dog bowls and towels are already waiting when you arrive.

  • Are dogs allowed at Colcote Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and with a wood burner in the lounge and a dedicated laundry area for dealing with wet dogs, the cottage is well set up for visits whatever the weather. If you want to confirm availability for specific dates, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting Colcote Cottage with my dog?

The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, and the enclosed garden gives them a safe space to stretch out without you having to worry. The Stray, 200 acres of common land, is just a few streets away and is where most of Harrogate's dogs end up on their daily walks, and the Valley Gardens are also open to dogs throughout. For longer days out, the Yorkshire Dales are around half an hour's drive away.
