The owner says the stairs are steep and narrow before anybody asks. That is worth a great deal more than it reads: it is the one measurement nobody photographs, and it is what somebody travelling with an old dog needs to know first. Corner Cottage is a dog friendly cottage in Pett for four, with two dogs allowed. The bathroom is downstairs and the bedrooms sit above. The sea is a mile down the hill.

It is an old cottage and nobody has straightened it out. Rooms arrive at angles, the double sits under the roof and the second room takes bunks, and downstairs a wood burner does the evening with the first load of logs left ready. An enclosed garden sits behind, a table and chairs on it, the size of square a dog claims in an afternoon and then patrols against the neighbouring cat all week.

What it rewards is a family that walks. Pett sits up on the ridge, so every outing starts by going down and finishes coming back up, and two dogs will be more enthusiastic about that than whoever carries the bags. Come back and the burner is lit by four, the boots stay outside, and both animals are asleep before the kettle.

A mile down the hill, Pett Level runs as a long shore of shingle and sand under the last of the cliffs, with the Royal Military Canal behind it and flat marsh either side. West the ground climbs into Fairlight and the cliffs of the Hastings country park, which is the steep option. East it flattens out towards Winchelsea and the bay, which is as much level walking as any dog will ask for.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Corner Cottage - Pett dog friendly?

Yes, Corner Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. There's an enclosed garden out the back where they can settle in, and Pett Level beach is just a mile down the hill, with plenty of walking in both directions once you get there.

  • Are dogs allowed at Corner Cottage - Pett year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the wood burner and the enclosed garden, it feels well set up for a visit in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Corner Cottage - Pett with my dog?

The owner flags upfront that the stairs are steep and narrow, which is genuinely useful to know if you're travelling with an older or less mobile dog. The bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs, so it's worth thinking about how your dog handles that kind of layout before you book.
