On the periphery of the 600 acres of National Trust land at Minchinhampton Common, in the charming village of Bownham, Cotswold Valley View is a magnificent Georgian home on the edge of the Golden Valley. Ten guests sleep in five elegant bedrooms. Two dogs are welcome too, and from this dog friendly house a plethora of trails over rolling hills and ancient woodland waits for them.
The entrance hall is the place to slip off coats and boots and dry the dogs before heading into the incredibly spacious Shaker style kitchen, with its gas Aga, wine fridge and adjacent dining room for the evening feast. The light living room has panoramic windows with amazing views across the valley and an open fire, and the snug close by has a second fire to stoke up for an evening's reading, a dog asleep at your feet. One bedroom has a desk on a mezzanine, the family bathroom has a free standing bath and built in TV, and there is a chic shower room with LED lighting.
Outside, the very private garden around the house is a wonderful entertaining space, with a gas fire pit dining table, a purpose built stone BBQ, and an elevated patio with more seating and the hot tub. The games barn adds table tennis, darts, table football and a pool table, and the dogs can doze on the patio while the tournament runs.
Stroud is 2.5 miles away, with independent boutiques, eateries and one of the best farmers' markets in the country, and Nailsworth is another market town worth a browse. Wine tasting at Woodchester Valley Vineyard and the Cotswold Gliding Club are nearby too, but the Common is where most mornings with the dogs will start.
