Book now

Sedbusk is a small hamlet sitting high on the north side of Wensleydale, and Dales View takes its name from what it looks at. It is an 18th century stone cottage for six, dog friendly, with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two dogs welcome, a mile above Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The old house keeps its bones: exposed stonework, pine floors and a multi-fuel burner in the living room, with a dining room lined with books and a kitchen with a breakfast table. The utility room holds games and toys and a tumble dryer, which earns its place after a day on the fells with a wet dog. Upstairs are a super king, a king, a double and a single, a bathroom and a shower room.

The garden is enclosed and laid to lawn, with furniture and a barbecue, and it sits in front of that view. It is a place for a dog to lie in the grass and watch the valley while the kettle boils, and for the evening to end, the burner lit inside and the dogs spread out across the floor, the lights of Hawes coming on below.

A dog's walking starts at the door. Hardraw Force, the tallest unbroken waterfall in England, is a mile along the valley side, and Hawes, with its market and its creamery, is an easy walk down. Semerwater and the long climb of Dodd Fell are close, and Swaledale is over the Buttertubs Pass. It is sheep country throughout, and dogs go on leads in the fields.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Dales View dog friendly?

Yes, Dales View welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has an enclosed lawned garden where dogs can roam freely, a utility room with a tumble dryer for drying off wet coats after a day on the fells, and the kind of space — stone floors, a multi-fuel burner, room to spread out — that suits dogs just as well as people.

  • Are dogs allowed at Dales View year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the owner when booking if you're planning a visit at a particular time of year. What's clear is that the cottage is set up to make dogs genuinely comfortable whatever the weather, with a tumble dryer and a burner to come back to after wetter days on the fells.

  • What should I know before visiting Dales View with my dog?

Dales View sits in sheep country, so dogs will need to be on leads in the fields — worth bearing in mind for any walks in the surrounding area. The good news is that walking starts right from the door, with Hardraw Force a mile along the valley side and Hawes an easy stroll downhill, and the enclosed garden gives dogs a safe place to be off lead at the cottage itself.
