You climb the steps up to the house and the view arrives before you do. Deuddeg Treflan sits in the hills of Aberdyfi, a dog friendly house for four with an enclosed garden, a charcoal BBQ and a private balcony looking out over the Dyfi Estuary towards the mountains. The two dogs it takes are to be over six months old.

The door opens into one open plan room, lounging, cooking and dining together, with glass doors out to the balcony. The double bedroom and its en suite shower room are on that floor with a family bathroom, and the twin and a separate WC are on the floor below. The large balcony is laid with child friendly rubber tiles, and wet paws get on with them just as well. The garden is enclosed, with the BBQ in it, so the dogs can be out while supper cooks.

The balcony is the place to watch the sun setting over Cardigan Bay. There is a story told here about Cantre'r Gwaelod, a kingdom drowned beneath the bay whose bells still ring out somewhere under the water. That is easy enough to believe from a balcony at dusk with two dogs asleep on the tiles.

Aberdyfi is an old port town with a friendly charm, eateries, pubs and shops, and the beach is around 500 metres away. There is paddleboarding, crabbing and boat rides on the water, an 18 hole championship golf course, and a rugged coastal path for the dogs. Snowdonia is 15 miles off for the bigger hills.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Deuddeg Treflan dog friendly?

Yes, Deuddeg Treflan welcomes up to two dogs. The house has an enclosed garden, a private balcony laid with rubber tiles (practical for wet paws), and easy access to the beach a few hundred metres downhill — it's been set up with dogs genuinely in mind.

  • Are dogs allowed at Deuddeg Treflan year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it appears they're welcome throughout the year. It's always worth confirming directly with the owner when you book, particularly if you're planning a visit during peak times.

  • What should I know before visiting Deuddeg Treflan with my dog?

Both dogs must be over six months old — a specific condition that suggests the owners have thought carefully about the space, particularly the balcony. The garden is enclosed, which is reassuring, and the rubber-tiled balcony is as practical for dogs as it is for children. The beach is just a short walk downhill, and at low tide the estuary opens up too, so there's plenty of room to stretch their legs.
