Dipple House

Fochabers, Moray

A six bedroom country house for fourteen near Fochabers with an Aga, a drawing room, a tennis court and an enclosed garden, three dogs welcome.

Book now

Dipple House is the full country house package: an Aga in the kitchen, a drawing room with an open fire, a dining room with window seats, six bedrooms, six bathrooms and a tennis court on the lawn in season. It sleeps fourteen near Fochabers on the lower Spey and takes three dogs, dog friendly at a scale Moray rarely offers.

The ground floor deals the party out between drawing room, lounge and kitchen island, with French doors to the enclosed garden and its outdoor dining set. A mezzanine holds two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the first floor takes the master en suite and two more rooms, and the quadruple bedroom absorbs the children in one go. The utility receives wet coats, muddy boots and towelled dogs in their proper order.

It suits the once a year gathering: three branches of a family, three dogs, somebody claiming the Aga, somebody organising a tournament on the court, and the drawing room fire lit for the evening's slower half. Fourteen people can lose each other in this house, which is the point of one.

The Spey is a 1 mile walk for the riverbank circuit, Fochabers and Gordon Castle's walled gardens sit close, and Spey Bay, where the river meets the sea, makes the outing: dolphins offshore, shingle underfoot, and a dog convinced it has found the edge of the world. Elgin's cathedral ruins and the whisky trail fill the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Dipple House dog friendly?

Yes, Dipple House welcomes up to three dogs, which is genuinely generous for a property of this size in Moray. There's an enclosed garden with French doors from the ground floor, and a utility room set up to receive wet coats, muddy boots and towelled dogs after a day out.

  • Are dogs allowed at Dipple House year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to confirm directly with the owner when booking. The tennis court is noted as available in season, but nothing suggests dog access changes throughout the year.

  • What should I know before visiting Dipple House with my dog?

The house takes a maximum of three dogs, so if your group is bringing more it's worth checking ahead. The utility room is the designated spot for drying off after walks, keeping the rest of the house comfortable for everyone. The Spey is just a mile away and Spey Bay — shingle beach, sea and the chance of dolphins — makes for a brilliant day out with a dog in tow.
