1 / 20Fell Foot
Hawkshead, Cumbria
A two bedroom cottage for four above Esthwaite Water near Hawkshead, with a conservatory facing the lake, a wood burner and a small enclosed garden, two small dogs welcome.
Somebody put a conservatory on the lake side of Fell Foot and it changed the whole house. Esthwaite Water fills the glass from one wall to the other, and the chairs in there are where the day starts and where it ends up. Dog friendly and sleeping four, it stands on a rise south of Hawkshead and takes two small dogs, with an enclosed garden behind and a lawn at the front.
The lounge gathers round a wood burner, with the kitchen through from it, a range cooker and an oak table. A utility room takes the wet gear and earns its place here: fell kit, bike kit and a dog towel all end up in it and none of them reach a carpet. The main bedroom is a zip and link super king with its own shower room, and the second is a double across the landing from the bathroom.
Two small dogs have located the patch of conservatory floor the sun reaches last and neither intends to move. Somebody has walked down to the water and come back smelling of it. The wood burner has been lit early because it is that kind of evening, the range is doing something slow, and Esthwaite has gone flat outside the window with a heron standing in the shallows.
Hawkshead is a short walk up the road, whitewashed squares and alleys where Wordsworth went to school, and dogs are taken in everywhere. Esthwaite Water gives the near circuit, level going for legs of any age. Grizedale's forest tracks and the Claife Heights woods above Windermere are both close by, and the Windermere ferry crosses from Far Sawrey if a day on the other shore appeals.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Fell Foot dog friendly?
Yes, Fell Foot welcomes dogs — up to two small dogs. The cottage has an enclosed garden to the rear and a lawn at the front, and a utility room designed for exactly the kind of end-of-day chaos that comes with dogs and wet countryside.
Are dogs allowed at Fell Foot year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth checking directly with the owner to confirm availability at the time you're planning to visit.
What should I know before visiting Fell Foot with my dog?
Fell Foot takes a maximum of two small dogs, so it's not suited to larger breeds or bigger groups of dogs. The utility room is a real practical bonus — there's somewhere to deal with muddy paws and wet kit before anything reaches the carpets. Hawkshead village is a short walk away and dogs are welcome there too, and Esthwaite Water offers an easy, level circuit right on the doorstep.
