Field Cottage

Ningwood, Isle of Wight

A spacious detached cottage at Ningwood in the West Wight sleeping eight, with an open fire, a wood burner, a large enclosed garden and two dogs welcome.

Book now

Field Cottage was once two cottages, and its renovation has made one spacious dog friendly house out of them, sleeping eight with plenty of room to relax inside and out. Two dogs are welcome, and the setting is tranquil and rural, surrounded by nature and open fields in the West Wight countryside.

Evenings here centre on the fire. The dual-aspect lounge has a warming open fire and a Sky TV with Netflix, and the spacious dining area of the kitchen/diner has a cosy wood burner of its own, so the dogs can pick whichever hearth they like. The kitchen has a Rangemaster cooker and a walk-in larder, and doors from the dining area open onto a sunny conservatory with views over the garden.

Outside, the impressively sized enclosed garden gives the dogs a spacious lawn to run on, while the patio has garden furniture and younger guests have a set of swings and a large trampoline. Back indoors, a charming twin room and a cloakroom sit downstairs, while the first floor keeps the remaining three bedrooms: a master suite with its own Smart TV, en-suite shower room and dressing room, another en-suite double, and a generously sized twin. The main bathroom is stylish and contemporary, with both a bath and a shower.

Walks start from the doorstep across the open fields, so the dogs are out before breakfast. The nearby village of Shalfleet has a welcoming pub, a village store and a farm shop with fresh local produce. Yarmouth, to the west, has a busy marina, and further round the coast the sandy beaches at Colwell Bay and Totland look across to the mainland.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Field Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Field Cottage welcomes two dogs. The house has a long ground floor with a door at either end, giving dogs plenty of room to move around, and the enclosed garden with its impressively sized lawn is theirs to make the most of.

  • Are dogs allowed at Field Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates. What is clear is that dogs are a central part of what Field Cottage offers, right down to the conservatory designed for watching them work the lawn.

  • What should I know before visiting Field Cottage with my dog?

The cottage takes up to two dogs, so if you're travelling with more it's worth checking with the owners in advance. The garden is enclosed, which is great for dogs, and there are lanes and field paths accessible from the door — plus beaches within reach whichever direction you head by car.
