1 / 33Foxglove Farm
Inkpen, West Berkshire
A canvas hideaway on Simon and Kathe's working farm at Inkpen, inside the North Wessex Downs, with walking routes from the door and two dogs welcome, kept on the lead on the farm.
Simon first farmed the land at Foxglove as a teenager, after agricultural college, and he and Kathe have owned it since the late 1990s. It is a traditional working farm in the quiet Berkshire countryside, home to rare breed sheep, cattle, calves, pigs, goats and chickens, and a dog friendly farm stay too: two dogs can join you, and they stay on the lead around the farm.
Each of the six hideaways is a cottage under canvas: three bedrooms, a kitchen fitted out with everything you need, and a wood burning stove that warms the tent and cooks the supper. There is no electricity, which is the whole charm of it. Book the stove and lamp service and arrive before six, and the stove and oil lamps are lit for you, so the dogs come in to warmth and candlelight.
Simon and Kathe love sharing the farm and teaching guests about life on it. Lambs arrive each April and calves through the summer, and Flint the sheepdog steals the show rounding up the flock, a sight any visiting dog will find riveting. The farm trail wanders through meadows and past grazing animals, and on pizza night everyone gathers to swap stories.
Foxglove sits next to Inkpen Common nature reserve, and walking and cycling routes start straight from the hideaway, so the dog's day can begin at the door. Inkpen village has the Crown and Garter and a café within walking distance, the walk up to Combe Gibbet is a must for its history, and the Kennet and Avon Canal is close by for a day on the water.

Book with Feather Down FarmsFrequently Asked Questions
Is Foxglove Farm dog friendly?
Yes, Foxglove Farm welcomes up to two dogs per booking. It's a working sheep farm in West Berkshire with plenty of walking on the doorstep, including a nature reserve at the boundary and bridleways heading out in several directions.
Are dogs allowed at Foxglove Farm year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, but it's worth contacting the farm directly to confirm availability for your dates. Bear in mind that as a working farm with sheep, lambs, pigs and cattle, conditions and access may vary depending on the time of year.
What should I know before visiting Foxglove Farm with my dog?
The most important thing to know is that dogs must stay on the lead for the entire duration of your stay — there is no enclosed garden or fenced area where they can run free, and the farm has livestock the other side of most fences. This is a place that suits a dog that walks well on a long line; if yours needs off-lead time in a secure space every day, this probably isn't the right fit. On the plus side, there's a nature reserve on the doorstep, good chalk downland walks across the North Wessex Downs, and a flat canal towpath nearby that works well for older or less energetic dogs.
