Graig Wen is a dog friendly campsite near Barmouth and Dolgellau, with views over the Mawddach Estuary and direct access down its own track to the Mawddach Trail. Camper vans have hardstanding pitches with electric hook up, while tents go nearly wild in the meadows, some down near the estuary for stargazing around a campfire. There are dog friendly yurts and cottages too, and the site is home to two rescue lurchers, Bryn and Franklin, who love people but like to meet other dogs in their own time.
With sheep grazing nearby and children wandering around the buildings and camp site, dogs stay on a lead or long line on site at all times, with poo bags left around the site. Once on the Mawddach Trail, a 5 minute walk down the track, they are free to run off lead. The charge for dogs on the campsite goes to a local animal shelter, and Almost Home Dog Rescue and Freshfields Animal Sanctuary have both benefitted from campers' contributions.
