Three bathrooms for six people. Green Cottage at Swinton has done the arithmetic that most cottages of this size get wrong, and the result is a five star dog friendly cottage in which nobody queues for anything at all. The enclosed garden behind the house holds furniture and a charcoal BBQ, and two dogs have the freedom of it.

Three bedrooms, two king size and a twin, are served by a shower room, a Jack and Jill en suite and a bathroom with a bath in it. There is a lounge and a separate snug, each with a Smart TV, and a utility off the kitchen carrying a second fridge, which is the detail that gives away somebody having genuinely catered for six here. A wood burner takes the evening and the logs come with it. The dogs get the run of the ground floor and the garden door.

The cottage sits on the green at Swinton, which is a proper village rather than a hamlet, with a pub of some local reputation across the grass. The enclosed garden at the back is where the dogs go and the green at the front is where everyone else ends up, which is a workable division of territory. Six people and two dogs is a family, or three couples, and the house has been fitted for either without favouring one.

The Cheviots are the reason to be this far east. College Valley opens 14 miles south with Hethpool Linn's waterfall inside it, Humbleton Hill stands above Wooler, and The Cheviot itself is the long day out of the Harthope valley. It is empty grassy border country where a dog can run for hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Green Cottage - Swinton dog friendly?

Yes, Green Cottage is a five star dog friendly cottage that welcomes up to two dogs. They have the run of the ground floor and access to the enclosed garden via a dedicated garden door, so they're genuinely catered for rather than just tolerated.

  • Are dogs allowed at Green Cottage - Swinton year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and there's nothing to suggest dogs are limited to particular times of year. If you need to confirm availability for specific dates, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting Green Cottage - Swinton with my dog?

The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, who have free range of the ground floor and the enclosed rear garden — a sensible setup that keeps them separate from the village green at the front. The surrounding area is excellent walking country, with the Cheviots on the doorstep offering long, open grassy hillsides where dogs can really stretch their legs.
