Greenhouse Cottage

Meerbrook, Staffordshire

A one bedroom cottage for two at Meerbrook under the Roaches, on a working farm with an enclosed rear garden and one dog welcome.

There are heating and cooling units in the kitchen, on the stairs, in the lounge and the bedroom. Nobody photographs that, and for a thick coated dog in the middle of summer it is the most useful thing in the building. Greenhouse Cottage sleeps two at Meerbrook, dog friendly, with a super king bedroom, an en suite shower room and an enclosed garden at the back. Kit that only matters to the animal is the kind nobody markets, and it is worth looking for.

The limit is one dog and the owner sets out why, which is that this is a working farm with stock on it. A limit with a reason attached is a different thing from a limit on its own, and it tells you what the week will be: a lane, a yard, stock over a wall, and a garden fenced off from all of it.

Two people who want to be out of the way rather than near things will get the most from it. The cottage is up a track with the farm around it, the kitchen has underfloor heating for coming back into, and there is nothing to do in the evening except eat and sleep early. For one dog and a pair of walkers that is close to an ideal week.

Less than a mile up the lane, the Roaches stand on end. It is a gritstone edge running two miles across the skyline with Hen Cloud broken off the south end like a piece that fell, and paths along the top and the bottom. Tittesworth lies under them with a level circuit round the water. One dog gets rock above and a reservoir below, both on foot from the door.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Greenhouse Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Greenhouse Cottage welcomes dogs — one dog is accepted per stay. The cottage has an enclosed rear garden, so your dog has a safe outdoor space, and the surrounding farm lane and the Roaches gritstone edge are right on the doorstep for walks.

  • Are dogs allowed at Greenhouse Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest the welcome is limited to particular times of year. It's worth noting that the cottage has heating and cooling units throughout, which is a genuine practical bonus for thick-coated dogs visiting in summer.

  • What should I know before visiting Greenhouse Cottage with my dog?

The one-dog limit is there for a clear reason: Greenhouse Cottage sits on a working farm with livestock, so keeping numbers manageable makes sense for everyone. Your dog will have the enclosed rear garden as a safe space, but you'll want to be mindful of stock over the wall when out in the yard or lane. It's a setup that suits a single well-travelled dog and a pair of walkers who are happy to spend their days out on the hills.
