Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of each on the ground floor, which keeps things simple for anybody who would rather not climb at the end of a long day. Longnewton is farmland and very little else, which is exactly the point of it. The cottage looks onto working ground, the tracks across it can be walked, and two dogs will be out on them well before the kettle has boiled. Melrose, Jedburgh and Kelso each sit within a short drive, every one of them built around a ruined 12th century abbey, with the Tweed threading between them. Scott's View looks across the Eildon Hills from above Dryburgh. For the bigger walking day the border ridge rises to the south, Chew Green's Roman camp 17.5 miles off over the line and the Cheviots behind it, which is more ground than two dogs can use.
