Lunan Bay does most of the selling here. Grieves Cottage looks straight across farmland to one of Scotland's finest beaches, a long red sanded sweep with a ruined castle in the middle of it, and the enclosed garden at the back holds the view. It is a dog friendly cottage for six with two dogs on the booking and the sort of outlook that decides the morning walk before breakfast.

Everything is on one level, bedrooms and living space alike, a gift to an older dog and to whoever ends up carrying the luggage. The dining table sits in the sunroom, the lounge keeps a wood burner, and the three bedrooms run from a king size four poster through a super king that splits to twins to a bunk room for children. One smart shower room serves the lot.

The back garden is where the evening happens. There is a hot tub, a fire pit and a charcoal BBQ out there, and after a day on the sand the sequence writes itself: dogs towelled off and flat out, the fire pit going, dinner smoking on the coals, somebody in the hot tub with a glass, and the bay slowly going dark beyond the fields.

The sand itself begins 2 miles away down quiet lanes, and it is the kind of beach a dog remembers: a great length of it, dunes behind, seals offshore and hardly anyone on it midweek. Montrose and Arbroath bracket the cottage, and the Angus Glens rise inland for a hill day.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Grieves Cottage - Lunan Bay dog friendly?

Yes, Grieves Cottage welcomes dogs — up to two on a booking. The enclosed back garden gives them a safe outdoor space, and Lunan Bay itself is just 2 miles down quiet lanes, a long red-sand beach with dunes and hardly anyone on it midweek.

  • Are dogs allowed at Grieves Cottage - Lunan Bay year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth checking directly with the owner when you book. What we can say is that the cottage and its surroundings — beach, garden, fire pit — lend themselves to a dog-friendly visit at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Grieves Cottage - Lunan Bay with my dog?

The cottage is single level throughout, which is a real bonus for older or less mobile dogs. The back garden is enclosed, so there's somewhere safe to let them decompress after a day on the sand, and the beach at Lunan Bay — seals offshore, dunes behind — is the kind of place a dog will want to go back to every morning.
