One dog, two people and a luxurious lodge pod on the historic Hadrian's Wall: Hadrians Wall Rest is a cosy, romantic dog friendly retreat in a spectacular rural position at Irthington. Walking routes lead from the property straight onto Hadrian's Walk, so a morning walk with the dog needs nothing more than a lead.
Inside, the double bed sits to the rear of the pod, with a lounge area and TV, a dining table and a well equipped kitchen area with a single ring hob, fridge freezer and microwave. Through the door is a spacious shower room. After a day out exploring, the dog settles in while supper goes on.
Outside, the private decked area has seating, magnificent countryside views across Hadrian's Walk and a two seat hot tub that can be added to the stay. It is the spot for al fresco dining, a glass of wine or a good local ale, and for lazy evenings star gazing with the dog curled at your feet. Deer, red squirrels, barn owls, hare, rabbits and red kites are regular visitors, and the dog will watch for them as keenly as you do. The pods on the site each have their own decking and hot tub and share the enclosed area around them.
The historic market town of Brampton is only a short drive, and Carlisle is within easy reach. Talkin Tarn Country Park has canoeing and open water swimming, and Gelt Woods is ancient woodland with the River Gelt running through it, a lovely morning's exploring with the dog. The Roman ruins at Housesteads, Birdoswald and Vindolanda are close, as are the Northern Lakes, the Eden Valley and the Scottish Borders.
