Hadrians Wall Retreat sits on the World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall, which runs 84 miles coast to coast from the Solway Firth to South Shields, and the lodge pod has direct access onto Hadrian's Walk. It is a dog friendly glamping escape for a couple and one dog, in a beautiful rural spot, with peace and quiet and fantastic walking from the door.
The pod is set up for romance. A comfortable double bed sits at the rear, the lounge area has a TV for quiet evenings, and a dining table with seating makes supper an occasion. The kitchen area has a hob, a fridge freezer and a microwave, and a door leads through to the spacious shower room. When the walking is done, the dog flops down by the dining table and is asleep before the plates are cleared.
The private decking outside has seating and a hot tub, with magnificent countryside views across Hadrian's Walk. It is the spot for dining out, a local ale, and watching for the regular visitors, from deer, red squirrels and barn owls to hares, rabbits and red kites, all of which keep the dog's nose busy all evening. The grounds around the pods are shared.
Brampton, a picture postcard village, is close at hand, and Carlisle is within easy reach too. The Roman ruins at Housesteads, Birdoswald and Vindolanda bring the Wall to life, and Talkin Tarn Country Park and the ancient woodland at Gelt Woods give the dog new ground to cover.
