Hay Barn is a handsome stone barn conversion on the lower slopes of the Old Man of Coniston, in a rural farmland setting overlooking Coniston Water. Up to five guests can stay, a pair of dogs is welcome, and the dog friendly barn has peace and quiet all around and miles of scenic walks direct from the front door.
Inside the hallway, one flight of stairs leads up to the living space and another down to the bedrooms. On the first floor, lounge and kitchen are open plan, with a selection of seating gathered round the warmth of the log burner, a Smart TV for a film and the dogs stretched out once the fire is going. There is a separate dining room for leisurely breakfasts and family dinners, and a cloakroom with a WC.
Down on the lower ground floor are the bedrooms and bathroom: a restful king size double with a low level, cottage style window, and a tastefully decorated room with a double and a single bed. Outside, the enclosed front garden has potted plants and a picnic bench, a pleasant place to sit in the tranquil atmosphere with both dogs at your feet, and the first basket of logs is waiting for the evening.
Through the courtyard and on across the meadows is the edge of the farm, where miles of walking begin for the dogs. Coniston village is a short drive away for its shops, restaurants and pubs and the Ruskin Museum, and the restored steam yacht gondola leaves from the jetty for a relaxed day on the lake. Watersports equipment can be hired at the Coniston Boating Centre, and Go Ape in Grizedale Forest and Wray Castle are close by.
