The Brecon Beacons begin at the end of the road from Heol Giedd, a sweet terraced cottage in Cwmgiedd on the very edge of the national park. Sleeping four, with three dogs welcome, this dog friendly home has a lovely rear enclosed garden that leads to the river, gated off, where a rustic fire pit and seating wait for the evening.

You step straight into the cosy lounge, styled in a contemporary country way, with seating laid around the warming wood burner, where three dogs tend to stake their claim before the bags are in. Beyond it is a snug with a Smart TV, a music system and French doors that open to the garden, then on into the kitchen and diner, which are open plan.

The two bedrooms upstairs, one double and one twin, share a bathroom with a bath plus its own shower cubicle. Outside there is a patio, a lawn and a gravel area with dining furniture and a charcoal BBQ, along with an outdoor utility room for the washing machine and freezer. Down by the river, the seating and fire pit make somewhere different to enjoy a glass of wine, with three dogs at your feet.

Ystradgynlais is less than a mile away, while at Dan yr Ogof the National Show Caves come with a dinosaur park. The market towns of Llandeilo and Llandovery are a short drive, and Swansea is 15 miles off, with beaches from the Mumbles right into the Gower. For the dogs there are local trails to walk and plenty of wildlife to spot along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Heol Giedd dog friendly?

Yes, Heol Giedd welcomes up to three dogs. The property has an enclosed garden running down to the river, so your dogs have safe outdoor space to enjoy, and the open-plan layout indoors means everyone — people and dogs alike — tends to stay in the same space.

  • Are dogs allowed at Heol Giedd year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest they aren't welcome throughout the year. It's always worth confirming directly with the property when you book, just to be sure.

  • What should I know before visiting Heol Giedd with my dog?

Up to three dogs are welcome, and the fully enclosed garden — gravel at the top, lawn below, with the river running along the bottom — gives them plenty of room to roam safely. There's a utility room outside with a washing machine, which is handy for cleaning up after a day on the hill. Nearby, Craig-y-nos Country Park offers river walks and lawns where dogs can be taken around, making it a good base for days out.
