Higher Merrose is one of two charming barn conversions set in 130 acres of arable land near Portreath, and a well kept footpath leads directly from the cottage to Tehidy Country Park, with its lake, golf course and café. The owner calls that path ideal for dog walkers, and with two dogs welcome and an enclosed garden outside, this dog friendly barn is well placed for exploring the whole of Cornwall.
Inside, the open plan accommodation is very spacious. Vaulted ceilings are lined with exposed beams and trusses, deep window sills add to the original charm, and the kitchen and diner is a generous family space with a pod coffee machine for the first cup of the day. The lounge sits beneath more of those trusses, a cosy and interesting room with a Smart TV, and the dogs stretch out there after a day on the footpaths.
There are two ground floor bedrooms, the king served by its own en suite and the twin served by a spacious bathroom. Outside, the enclosed garden area has seating, with a barbecue available on request, and the dogs doze out there while the evening is planned. Guests are invited to explore the farm too, and to befriend the resident cows and sheep.
The beach is 2 miles away, with the popular sands at Portreath, Gwithian and Perranporth all within easy reach, and the network of footpaths around the farm gives two dogs lovely walks straight from the door. St Agnes with its heritage mine ruins, Chapel Porth and Truro are close by, and the Eden Project and the Tate at St Ives make the longer days out.
