Godrevy Beach sits at the eastern end of the long Hayle beach system in north Cornwall, managed by the National Trust and looking out toward the lighthouse on Godrevy Island that inspired Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse. The beach is backed by extensive dunes and the dramatic Godrevy headland, and the sheer scale means space is almost always available. Rock pools are exposed at low tide below the headland, and the dune system provides completely different terrain to the open shore — sheltered, sandy and rich with coastal vegetation.
Cornwall Council PSPO restrictions apply from 1 July to 31 August, 10am to 6pm near the main access points, but walking further south along the beach quickly reaches unrestricted stretches. Outside those hours and months, the whole beach is fully accessible on this dog friendly beach. The Atlantic salt air here is cold and clean with the iron-mineral note of the headland rocks and the sweeter edge of dune grass. The sand shifts from firm and dark at the tideline to loose and pale in the dunes. Rock pools at low tide draw dogs straight in with their seaweed, crabs and tidal life. The Godrevy Cafe in the National Trust car park is dog-friendly and a reliable post-walk stop. The car park can overflow on busy summer days, so arriving early is wise.
