Honey Cottage

Gargrave, North Yorkshire

A renovated Victorian cottage for four on the green at Gargrave in the Yorkshire Dales, with an enclosed front garden, a boot wash sink, a wood burner and one small dog welcome.

Book now

Gargrave sits on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, strung along its village greens beside the River Aire, and Honey Cottage is a Victorian house on one of those greens, renovated from the ground up. Four people and one small dog share this dog friendly house, and a front garden laid out in the formal way that few gardens in the village still are.

That front garden is the enclosed one, with tables and seating on the path to the door. At the back there is a small yard with a table and chairs, which is not described as enclosed. The river is about 100 yards from the cottage and the canal locks are close by, so the dog stays on its lead near the water.

The sitting room's wood burner comes with logs for the first fire, and the kitchen runs through to a dining area against a red brick wall. The utility room has a boot wash sink, exactly where a small dog wants to be after a morning on the towpath. Down in the old keeping cellar the owners have fitted a bar, and upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a bathroom with a freestanding bath.

The Pennine Way passes through the village and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs past it, so the walking starts at the door. Malham, with its limestone cove and Gordale Scar, is a short drive north, and Skipton, with its castle and market, is a few minutes away by train. The Settle to Carlisle railway is a short walk from the cottage too, and a small dog can do a surprising amount of all this in a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Honey Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Honey Cottage welcomes one small dog alongside up to four guests. The cottage has an enclosed front garden, a utility room with a boot wash sink for muddy paws, and sits right on the edge of the towpath and Pennine Way, so there's no shortage of good walking from the door.

  • Are dogs allowed at Honey Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's best to check directly with the owners when booking to confirm availability for your dates. Given the wood burner and cosy setup, it feels well suited to a dog-friendly break at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Honey Cottage with my dog?

The cottage accommodates one small dog, so it's not suitable for larger breeds or multiple dogs. The River Aire is only about 100 yards away and the canal locks are close by, so the owners ask that dogs are kept on the lead near the water. On the plus side, the front garden is enclosed and the utility room has a dedicated boot wash sink — a handy detail after a morning on the towpath.
