Humbug House

Upper Soudley, Gloucestershire

A renovated three bedroom house for five at Upper Soudley in the Forest of Dean, with an enclosed garden off the living room, walks into the forest from the door and one dog welcome free.

Book now

Step out of the front door of Humbug House and you are walking into the Forest of Dean. The house stands at Upper Soudley, renovated in 2023, dog friendly, sleeping five across three bedrooms, and it takes one small or medium dog, with no charge made for it.

The ground floor is one open living and dining room with a wood burner, and under it the floor is heated, which a dog lying on it for the evening discovers before anybody else does. Patio doors lead straight out into the enclosed garden, where there is seating on the patio and a barbecue, so the last trip out at night is a matter of sliding a door. A fireguard and stair gates are provided, useful for keeping a dog downstairs as much as a toddler.

Upstairs the main bedroom is kingsize with its own walk-in shower, and there is a twin, a single and a family bathroom, which suits a family of four or five travelling with the dog. The kitchen has a coffee machine and a dishwasher, and there is a separate toilet downstairs. By the end of the first day the routine is settled: forest in the morning, the fire in the afternoon, and a dog flat out on the warm floor.

Soudley Ponds, a chain of old ponds in the woods along the valley, is 0.3 miles away, and the forest paths spread out from there in every direction. Mallards Pike lake and the sculpture trail at Beechenhurst are both close, and Symonds Yat Rock, Puzzlewood and the Dean Forest Railway make easy mornings out with a dog in the car.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Humbug House dog friendly?

Yes, Humbug House welcomes one small or medium dog, and there's no additional charge for bringing them. The enclosed garden is accessible straight from the living room via patio doors, which makes life easy, and the forest is on the doorstep the moment you step outside.

  • Are dogs allowed at Humbug House year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest they aren't welcome throughout the year. If you want to confirm availability for specific dates, it's worth contacting the property directly.

  • What should I know before visiting Humbug House with my dog?

The house takes one small or medium dog only, so it's not suitable for larger breeds or multiple dogs. It's worth knowing that a fireguard and stair gates are provided, which can help keep a dog in the downstairs living area if needed. The enclosed garden means late-night outings are simple, and Soudley Ponds and the forest paths are just 0.3 miles away for your morning walks.
