1 / 24Jeana's Cottage
Forest Coal Pit, Monmouthshire
A stylish detached cottage for six next to a working farm at Forest Coal Pit in the Black Mountains, with a games room, an enclosed wildlife garden and one dog welcome.
Sheep gently bleating, endless views across the Black Mountains and the friendly farmer heading out to tend the herd: Jeana's Cottage is a delightful detached cottage next to a working farm in the Brecon Beacons National Park, graded five stars and superbly stylish inside. Six guests and one well behaved dog share this dog friendly cottage, with walks and country lane cycle rides straight from the door.
The entrance opens into a spacious, warm open plan space for cooking, eating and relaxing, with a wood burner, and this is the dog's part of the house, as the owners ask that it stays on the ground floor. A downstairs WC sits alongside a fantastic games room with a pool table, a dartboard, a TV, a PlayStation and a recently added pinball machine to entertain everyone.
Upstairs are three bedrooms, two king size and a double, with extra beds for a family, along with a full bathroom, a separate shower room and another WC. Outside is a beautiful enclosed garden that is friendly to wildlife and insects, with a terrace, garden furniture in the summer months and a charcoal barbecue, and this is where the dog can run loose; elsewhere the owners ask that it is kept on a lead, as cattle, sheep and horses are all around the farm.
Private fishing on the farm and pony trekking in the neighbouring valleys are on hand, and the dog has the Black Mountains all around for walks on the lead. Crickhowell, with the River Usk flowing by and good independent traders, is 4 miles away, Abergavenny, with its September food festival, is 5 miles, and Brecon and Hay-on-Wye are each half an hour's drive.

Is Jeana's Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Jeana's Cottage welcomes dogs. The property has an enclosed garden and a downstairs WC that makes life easier when your dog comes in wet from a walk — no muddy paws trailing up the stairs.
Are dogs allowed at Jeana's Cottage year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the working farm setting and the walks on the doorstep, it's well set up for dogs whatever the season.
What should I know before visiting Jeana's Cottage with my dog?
The cottage is on a working farm with livestock in the surrounding fields, so your dog will need to be reliable around sheep to make the most of the week — a dog that can take stock calmly will have far more freedom on the local lanes and hillside walks. The property takes one dog, so it's not the place for a multi-dog household. It's also worth knowing that the nearby walks to Longtown Castle and the Grwyne Fawr reservoir are reached on foot from the cottage, and dogs can largely be off lead on both.
