Book now

Joe's Barn is a dog friendly barn conversion above Dacre Banks, up a private drive, its enclosed garden wrapped round all four sides. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, six people and two dogs, and the whole ground floor is heated from underneath, a surface any wet dog will choose over the bed you brought. The first room through the door is the entrance hall, built to take boots.

Past the hall the house opens into one long room where kitchen, table and sofas share the same air, with a second, quieter lounge off it giving onto the terrace. A utility and a shower room sit on that floor too, so both dogs are towelled off downstairs and none of it reaches the bedrooms. Above, the super king takes an en suite, with a double and a twin sharing the roll top bath.

Nine at night, and the underfloor heating went off an hour ago without anyone noticing. Two dogs are laid flat on the kitchen tiles, which hold warmth longest. Somebody is out at the far patio in the tub, somebody else is losing a board game, and the French doors stand open onto the terrace, because the garden goes all the way round and there is nowhere out there to get to.

Upstream the dale narrows past Pateley Bridge into its wilder half. At How Stean the beck has cut a limestone gorge 80 feet deep, with walkways bolted to the rock inside it and dogs allowed through on a lead. Beyond that the road climbs to the reservoirs at the dale head. The field paths around Dacre Banks do for the first walk of the morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Joe's Barn dog friendly?

Yes, Joe's Barn welcomes up to two dogs. The barn conversion has been set up with dogs genuinely in mind — there's a dedicated entrance hall for muddy boots and wet coats, underfloor heating across the whole ground floor that any damp dog will gravitate towards, and an enclosed garden wrapping all four sides of the property.

  • Are dogs allowed at Joe's Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the setup — underfloor heating, a utility and shower room downstairs for washing off, and field paths right on the doorstep — suggests it's well suited to year-round visits whatever the weather.

  • What should I know before visiting Joe's Barn with my dog?

Up to two dogs are welcome, and the ground floor is designed to handle the realities of dog ownership — there's a utility and shower room downstairs so dogs can be towelled off before they reach the bedrooms. The enclosed garden is a good spot to let them settle safely, and field paths around Dacre Banks are within easy reach for a first walk of the morning. If you're planning to visit How Stean Gorge nearby, dogs are welcome on a lead through the limestone gorge.
