Book now

Kielder Cottage Spa was built as a stable in 1848, on the edge of Kielder village in Northumberland, and it has been turned upside down: the bedrooms are downstairs and the open plan living room and kitchen are upstairs, where the window takes the view. Dog friendly, it sleeps six, for couples and families, with a private hot tub and room for one small dog.

The garden is enclosed, a lawn with a decked area, seating and furniture, and the hot tub sits out there too. There is a pond in the garden, so the dog needs watching near the water. Beyond the fence the cottage shares five acres of grounds and woodland with its neighbours, which makes an easy first and last walk on a lead.

Downstairs there are two doubles, one with its own walk-in shower, a twin and the family bathroom. Upstairs is the living space, with the dining table and the kitchen, and it is the room where the day is spent, the dog curled up in a corner of it while the light goes over the forest. After dark the hot tub is the place to be, because Kielder's skies are among the darkest in the country and the stars come out in numbers.

Kielder Castle is a short walk away and is the starting point for trails through England's largest working forest, and the Deadwater Fell circuit is 0.7 miles from the door. Kielder Water, the great lake at the heart of the forest, has the Lakeside Way running right round it, as long a walk as any dog could ask for. Red squirrels and pine martens live in the woods around.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Kielder Cottage Spa dog friendly?

Yes, Kielder Cottage Spa welcomes dogs, though it's worth knowing that only one small dog is permitted. The upstairs living space is set up for guests and their dogs to relax together, and the enclosed garden gives your dog a safe space to roam.

  • Are dogs allowed at Kielder Cottage Spa year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the owner when booking to confirm availability for your dates. Given the cottage is a holiday let rather than a venue with set opening seasons, year-round stays are likely possible.

  • What should I know before visiting Kielder Cottage Spa with my dog?

The enclosed garden is a great bonus, but do be aware there's a pond on the property, so you'll need to keep an eye on your dog near the water. Beyond the garden fence, the cottage shares five acres of grounds and woodland with its neighbours, which is handy for on-lead walks right from the door, and Kielder's forest trails and the Lakeside Way around Kielder Water are close by for longer adventures.
