You come in under a thatched porch. Linden Lea is a delightful Grade II listed cottage in the tranquil village of West Lulworth, and its lounge keeps a host of original features: exposed beams, a Purbeck stone floor and, in a stone fireplace, a traditional wood burner. This dog friendly cottage takes one dog and is ideally placed for the Jurassic Coast and the South West Coast Path.

The lounge is a lovely, welcoming space, with comfortable seating in plenty and a TV with DVD, and the dog will settle in here happily once the fire is going, with logs included from October to the end of April. There is also a light and inviting dining room, a fully equipped kitchen a few steps up, and a family bathroom.

Up from the lounge, the double is a cosy dual aspect room and en suite, while the twin, on the second landing, has a window seat, exposed ceiling beams, a stone chimney and low eaves. Behind the cottage, steps lead from the path up to a raised, enclosed lawn with seating and views over the hills, fenced off from the slope above the path. Mornings start well up there, with a coffee and a dog for company.

The walking here is superb, through the countryside and along the coast, and the dog can be at Lulworth Cove, a famous spot for fossil hunting, in about a mile. The natural arch of Durdle Door is close by, magnificent Lulworth Castle is a little way inland, and Ringstead Bay, Kimmeridge Bay, Weymouth and Swanage all make good days out.
