Padstow harbour is under a mile from the door, and Little Trevose sits in a quiet residential street above it, away from the crowd on the quay. It is a modern, dog friendly house for four with two en suite bedrooms, and it takes one dog, who has the run of the ground floor and a garden of its own.
The ground floor is one bright open room: kitchen at one end with an induction hob and plenty of worktop, sofas and chairs at the other, and a dining table between them. The house rule is that the dog stays downstairs, and a stair gate is provided to make that easy, so the dog gets the sofa end of the room and the people get the upstairs. Out of the back is an enclosed patio garden with furniture, a small, tidy, fenced space for the first morning coffee and the last trip out at night.
Upstairs the two bedrooms each have a big double walk-in shower of their own, a kingsize in one and a double in the other, which makes it a good fit for two couples sharing. Children under eight are not taken, except babes in arms, so the house stays grown up and quiet, and one dog asleep at the foot of the stairs is about as lively as it gets after dark.
The Camel Trail passes close by, flat and traffic free along the estuary to Wadebridge and on towards Bodmin, one of the easiest long walks with a dog in Cornwall. Padstow itself is harbour, galleries and seafood, and across the estuary the beaches at Daymer Bay and Polzeath are a drive round the water.
