Friog, Gwynedd
A detached Edwardian house in Friog near Fairbourne, sleeping eight, with enclosed terraced gardens, a games studio, mountain views and four dogs welcome.
Four dogs are welcome at Llifor, a magnificent detached Edwardian house in the village of Friog, a short walk from Fairbourne and its beach, with Snowdonia National Park to explore from the doorstep. Full of character and dog friendly, it gives groups of friends or families room for eight.
Lovingly refurbished in 2016, it is beautifully furnished and full of period features, Victorian tiles among them, with views towards the mountains and glimpses of the sea. A vibrant hallway has room for shoes and walking boots, the lounge with its wooden flooring and feature rugs enjoys lovely mountain views, and the warm, cosy dining room has an open fireplace. Just off the colourful kitchen is a breakfast room for coffee and the morning paper, while the dogs wait hopefully by the door.
All four bedrooms are tastefully decorated, with beautiful wooden flooring and feature fireplaces in the twins, and two bathrooms offer a refreshing shower or a hot bubble bath. Outside, the established, enclosed tiered gardens hold picnic spots, fruit trees and lawn areas, with a patio and furniture for dining alfresco, and the dogs can explore it all alongside you. There is swingball on the lawn, and the separate studio serves as the games room, with pool, a games console and a plethora of board games.
Fairbourne has a steam railway, a water taxi to Barmouth and a sandy beach with the sea beyond. A myriad of footpaths and cycle routes follow the coast, the estuary and the countryside of the National Park, so there is always another walk for the dogs, and the special Blue Lake in Friog and the top of Cadair Idris are both there for the taking.

Is Llifor dog friendly?
Llifor welcomes up to four dogs, which is double what most houses of this size tend to allow. It's set up for a group bringing multiple dogs rather than a couple with one — there's a spacious hallway for muddy boots and kit, and the enclosed tiered garden gives dogs a safe outdoor space to use between walks.
Are dogs allowed at Llifor year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth checking directly with the owner to confirm availability for your travel dates. What's clear is that the house is genuinely built around dog-friendly group stays, not just tolerating pets as an afterthought.
What should I know before visiting Llifor with my dog?
The garden is fully enclosed, which is reassuring, but it's tiered with steps between levels rather than a flat lawn — so it's better suited to dogs exploring on their own terms than a big game of fetch. For walks, you're spoiled for choice nearby: the Blue Lake (a flooded slate quarry reached through a rock tunnel), the Cregennan lakes, and Arthog's waterfalls through the woods are all accessible from the village and can be done with all four dogs.
