Stonham Aspal, Suffolk
A two bedroom lodge for six at Stonham Barns in mid Suffolk, with an enclosed garden and fenced wraparound terrace facing a fishing lake, and two dogs welcome free.
Lodge 38 is a two bedroom, two bathroom lodge built in 2023 on Stonham Barns, a 110 acre leisure park in the mid Suffolk countryside near Stowmarket. It is a dog friendly lodge for up to six people, two dogs come free of charge, and the thing that makes it work for them is the garden: enclosed, with a wraparound terrace fenced all round.
From that terrace the view is of the fishing lake opposite, one of two on the park, which is worth knowing with a dog that likes water, and of the anglers who sit beside it. Stonham Barns is a busy place, with a play area, funfair rides, adventure golf and golf simulator bays shared with the other lodges, and the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary on site, home to owls and birds of prey, so the dogs will find plenty to watch from the garden.
Inside, everything is on the ground floor. The open plan living room has patio doors to the terrace, a sofa bed and a television, and the king size bedroom has its own shower room, with a twin and a family bathroom alongside. It is a family lodge first, a place where the children are busy on the park and the dogs are happy on the terrace, and the owners leave doggy extras for the dogs.
For quieter walking, the castle and mere at Framlingham are a short drive east, and the Sutton Hoo estate beside the River Deben has paths through heath and woodland for a long dog walk. The Suffolk coast, from Aldeburgh to the fantasy village of Thorpeness, is within an easy day.

Book with cottages.comFrequently Asked Questions
Is Lodge 38 dog friendly?
Yes, Lodge 38 welcomes dogs, and two come completely free of charge. The owners even leave doggy extras for your four-legged guests, so they're clearly thought of as part of the stay rather than an afterthought.
Are dogs allowed at Lodge 38 year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, but as a private lodge rather than a managed holiday park with changing rules, there's nothing to suggest dogs aren't welcome throughout the year. It's always worth confirming directly with the owners when you book.
What should I know before visiting Lodge 38 with my dog?
The standout feature for dog owners is the enclosed garden with a fenced wraparound terrace — a real bonus if you have a dog that needs a secure outdoor space. Bear in mind that Stonham Barns is a busy leisure park with a funfair, play area and the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary on site, so dogs will have plenty of stimulation from the terrace but may find the wider park lively.
